Moumita Dey’s Journey from Aspiration to Impact

Moumita Dey, a 42-year-old resident of Anandapur, Kolkata, had long dreamed of becoming self-reliant and contributing meaningfully to her family’s financial stability. With a B.A. degree and strong aspirations, she hoped to build something of her own but lacked direction and opportunities. Her husband’s earnings from the unorganized sector supported their family, which included their son studying in Class X and her elderly mother-in-law. Despite her domestic responsibilities, Moumita held onto her desire to create an impact and transcend her circumstances.

Her turning point came when she learned about an entrepreneurship development program during a baseline survey conducted in her locality by Impact360. Motivated to pursue her aspirations, she enrolled in Impact360’s entrepreneurship development program “Swabhimaan” and received comprehensive entrepreneurship training. The training equipped her with essential skills in business planning, resource management, customer handling, and service delivery. As a part of the EDP process, she developed a detailed business plan—an idea to start an Aaya Service Centre offering trained caregiver support to families in need. Her business plan was reviewed and approved by IIT Kanpur Incubation Centre, and she was sanctioned a humble seed fund to begin her entrepreneurial journey.

What makes her story exceptional is the initiative she displayed even before receiving the seed fund. She began mobilizing women in her community who were interested in working as caregivers. Through informal conversations and word-of-mouth efforts, she created awareness about her upcoming service centre. This early outreach helped build trust and anticipation, laying a strong foundation for her business.

With the seed fund in hand, Moumita formally launched her Aaya Service Centre with a team of 30 women caregivers. Her commitment to quality and her ability to connect with the community helped her service grow rapidly. Within months, her network expanded to over 100 caregivers who were deployed across the city of Kolkata, providing essential services such as elderly care, childcare, postpartum support, and household assistance. Her venture soon became known for its reliability, compassion, and professionalism.

Today, Moumita earns an average monthly income of approximately ₹25,000 and has established herself as a catalyst of change in her locality. She has successfully created sustainable employment opportunities for underprivileged women, enabling them to earn dignified livelihoods. Her leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment have earned her recognition as a role model for many aspiring women entrepreneurs.

Moumita’s journey is a powerful testament to how structured guidance, financial support, coaching and self-belief can transform lives. Her success is not limited to personal achievement; it has sparked collective empowerment, giving many women the confidence and opportunity to step into the workforce. She continues to inspire her community—demonstrating that with determination and the right support, dreams can evolve into impactful realities.
